Canadian Mental Health Association Releases Navigating Workplace Disability Insurance

The Canadian Mental Health Association today releases Navigating Workplace Disability Insurance: Helping People with Mental Illness Find the Way. The report details the workplace disability insurance system in British Columbia from the perspective of those who have experienced the system. Canadian Mental Health Association Offers Ten Tips for Holiday Peace of Mind

The holiday season is a time many of us look forward to - sometimes with anticipation, sometimes with dread. For many, holidays can mean extra pressures: more decisions, more financial burdens, more cleaning and decorating, more cooking, more entertaining. When children are involved, tensions are magnified and if parents get frustrated and angry, then everyone suffers. Peace on Earth may seem impossible if you don't have peace of mind.

Canadian Mental Health Association launches www.givehope.ca as gift-giving alternative

Can't find the perfect gift for the person who has everything? Give hope instead. Debating what cheesy gift to buy the party host, the neighbours, the postman and the guy who does your hair? Canadian Mental Health Association launches
controversial 'loaded gun' campaign in Kamloops

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) tomorrow launches a provocative new fundraising campaign in Kamloops that uses the image and metaphor of a gun to hammer home a message about youth suicide. CMHA is calling on the community to help build public awareness of depression and teen suicide and put resources in schools, doctor's offices and community centres across the city. Every year in Kamloops, 1 in 5 teenagers thinks of killing themselves and 1 in 10 attempt it. The statistic, extrapolated from a school-based adolescent health survey across BC, is shocking and should make any member of the community stop and pause.

Valentine’s Day Blues

Pink, red and white - classic colours for Valentine's Day. But don't forget blue. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, feelings of sadness, inadequacy and loneliness are not uncommon both during and after the build-up to February's tribute to love and romance. This phenomenon is similar to feelings that can emerge during the December holiday season. In the case of both holiday periods, commercialism, peer pressure and unrealistic expectations coupled with a continuing lack of sunlight can reinforce negative moods.
